The Girlfriend — A Psychological Thriller That Followed Me Into My Dreams

FROM THE READING CORNER · A TAYLOREADS BOOK REVIEW

Book: The Girlfriend · Author: Michelle Frances

A little note from my reading chair

I’ll admit it: The Girlfriend was a little difficult for me to get into at first. But once I began seeing the story through the inner dialogues of its two women, I found myself looking at everything differently.

What made it so unsettling was the contrast. Their thoughts, interpretations, and complicated motivations sat beside the son’s comparatively simple, kind, trusting nature. That difference made the tension feel even more disturbing.

By the time I finished, the book had worked its way into my subconscious. I joked that it gave me nightmares — not quite nightmares, perhaps, but definitely some very twisted dreams that night! 😂

My reading-room verdict: A psychological thriller that grew on me and left a much stronger impression than its opening suggested. If you enjoy getting inside characters’ heads and questioning what you think you know, this is one to consider.
